Treat Hypertension – Can You Treat Hypertension Without Using Prescription Drugs?

A huge percentage of the American population suffers from high blood pressure, and in the vast majority of cases, their condition is treated with powerful prescription drugs. With that said, this trend seems to be changing as more and more people begin looking for alternative treatment options. The driving force behind this is the fact that most hypertension drugs carry the risk of side effects, as do most prescription drugs.
Before we go any further, I must just point out that the purpose of this article is not to convince you to ignore your doctor’s advice, but instead, it’s to inform you that you can indeed treat hypertension without resorting to potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals. In fact, there are several ways in which to treat high blood pressure effectively, just as millions of other people have done.

Of course your first step would be to get your blood pressure taken, or alternatively, you can take your own blood pressure at home if you have the equipment. Many people don’t even realize they have high blood pressure, even when they experience the symptoms. These would include things such as unexplained nose bleeds, persistent headaches, and frequent spells of dizziness. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s not to say you do have high blood pressure, but it certainly does warrant a checkup.

If you want to treat hypertension without drugs, then you’ll first need to acknowledge the fact that there will be a few lifestyle changes required on your part. For example, if you smoke, you need to kick the habit straight away. You’ll also need to take to good look at your diet, and begin focusing on eating more healthy foods and less junk food. Regular exercise is also something you’ll need to start doing. This doesn’t mean you have to do any hardcore workouts, but it does mean you have to work your muscles at least three or four times each week

Stress is another thing you’ll need to address if you want to treat hypertension without drugs. While stress may not actually cause high blood pressure, it certainly contributes. Here again, diet and exercise can do much to reduce stress levels, but you may also want to include some meditation, or even some yoga.
